Job Description

This position is responsible for collaborating with ITS staff to provide cybersecurity support services for the College. These responsibilities include supporting specific security initiatives such as risk assessments, threat monitoring, operating procedures, incident response, policy development/updates, training and reporting. A key component of this position is a high level of organization skills to ensure cybersecurity projects, training, documentation and communication are current and prioritized.

This position is a full-time Professional Services position (261-day contract).

Starting salary for the position is $42,000.00 annually.
Benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, 15 days vacation per year, paid holiday and spring breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

The Cybersecurity Specialist will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

Essential Duties Summary

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Positively embrace the mission, vision and values of Southeastern Community College.

  • Read and follow College policies and procedures.
  • Provide effective and communication to supervisor on all relevant matters.
  • Be able to relate and interact in an effective, positive manner with SCC students, employees, vendors, partners and the general public.
  • Support SCC ITS projects, services and operations as directed by the Vice President of Technology Services.
  • Collaborate with Vice President of Technology Services to provide cybersecurity training and awareness to SCC employees and students. This includes but is not limited to, annual training and awareness program, new employee onboarding and cybersecurity training based on staff risk.
  • Provide project management support (documentation, communication, scheduling) for all new cybersecurity initiatives. This includes vendor communication, updates and project management tasks.
  • Collaborate with ITS staff to support all IT services that directly impact cybersecurity.
  • Responsible for collaborating with security team to complete preventative maintenance initiatives/services to reduce the risk of cybersecurity incidents.
  • Part of a team that is responsible for initiatives to implement, secure and maintain technical controls to reduce cybersecurity risk.
  • Responsible for documentation and file management for the IT Security Team. This documentation includes agendas/minutes, security operating procedures, project tasks, incident response, disaster recovery, compliance and security framework.
  • Collaborate with the ITS Security Team to conduct risk assessments, provide threat monitoring services and implement/update security controls.
  • Monitor and update all Cloud based applications to ensure SCC staffs' security roles are aligned with their job responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with ITS staff to meet compliance requirements such as FERPA, GDPR, GLBA (Safeguards Act) and PCI/DSS.
  • Research and integrate cybersecurity related topics to keep documentation, training and knowledge base current.
  • Collaborate with vendors to align 3rd party services/solutions with security policies.
  • Be very organized and document requests, receive instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work hours outside of normal business hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    • Associates Degree required.
    • Associate's Degree IT technical related field preferred.
    • Minimum of two years' experience in technology, project management, cybersecurity or customer support position preferred.
    • Minimum of two years' experience with administrative support services, file management and project documentation preferred.
    • Experience providing technical training and support services preferred.
    • Knowledge and experience with ADA regulations and compliancy.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
    • Ability to research and adapt to emerging/changing technologies.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (listening, speaking and writing).
    • Ability to develop presentations and present to groups.
    • Must possess a high level of customer service skills to effectively, cooperatively and cordially work with faculty, staff, students and vendors in a high paced environment.
    • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, meet deadlines while demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
    • Provide help desk support for cybersecurity related requests. (i.e. phone, email, user accounts)
    • Must have valid driver's license

      Physical Demands

      The Cybersecurity Specialist must have the ability and mobility to service both campuses; ability to travel to other areas and throughout the college district as needed. Must be able to work on a basis of "available as work demands" in addition to a fixed schedule, which will include evenings and weekends. In addition, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district.
