Position Description
DEFINITION:To provide classroom and/or online instruction to
students enrolled in the Human Service Technology Applied Science
Degree program. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
- Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the
Human Services Technology Program Director
- May occasionally receive support and technical assistance from
Dean of Health and Human Services Division and/or Department Chair,
Allied Health.
- Exercises no supervision
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT:Essential and
other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are
not limited to the following:
- Provide classroom and lab instruction to students.
- Provide instruction both face-to-face in the classroom and
online.
- Develop course and student learning objectives
- Implement lesson plans and instruct classroom activities
- Utilize supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons
- Administer academic activities to evaluate student performance;
grade record individual scores
- Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and
machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on
experience as appropriate
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and
performance
- Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate
and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters,
registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade
rosters
- Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related
to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and
guidelines
Other Important Functions:
- Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and
recommend improvements as needed
- Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments;
travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as
appropriate
- Participate in student related activities including graduation
and/or completion of the program
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Professional skills, knowledge and attributes within the Human
services field Substance Abuse Counseling field. These include, but
are not limited to: criteria for certification; curriculum
requirements for the 270 hours of didactic component of the
certification process; private and public agency employment
requirements; teaching to a diverse student base, etc.
- Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and
procedures
- Principles and procedures of academic and instructional
techniques and procedures
- Current trends, research and development in the area of
assignment
- Principles and techniques involved in test development and
administration Ability To:
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies,
procedures, rules, and regulations
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with
those contacted in the course of work
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception
needed for:
- Making observations
- Reading and writing
- Communicating with others
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of
assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the
following:
- Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
- Bending, stooping, climbing or lifting up to 50 pounds
- Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
- Making sound decisions
- Responding to questions
- Demonstrating intellectual capabilities EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
GUIDELINES:Any combination of experience and training that would
likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum Education/Training:
- Master's degree with a major in Human Services Psychology,
Social Work or other closely related field from a regionally
accredited college or university.
Licensure/Certification:
- Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of health
and human services, and behavioral health/substance abuse
specifically.
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
- Minimum of two years teaching in higher education.
