Position Description
DEFINITION:To provide classroom and/or online instruction to students enrolled in the Human Service Technology Applied Science Degree program. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the Human Services Technology Program Director
  • May occasionally receive support and technical assistance from Dean of Health and Human Services Division and/or Department Chair, Allied Health.
  • Exercises no supervision
    Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
    ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT:Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Provide classroom and lab instruction to students.
    • Provide instruction both face-to-face in the classroom and online.
    • Develop course and student learning objectives
    • Implement lesson plans and instruct classroom activities
    • Utilize supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons
    • Administer academic activities to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scores
    • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
    • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
    • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines
      Other Important Functions:
      • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
      • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
      • Participate in student related activities including graduation and/or completion of the program
      • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
        Knowledge of:
        • Professional skills, knowledge and attributes within the Human services field Substance Abuse Counseling field. These include, but are not limited to: criteria for certification; curriculum requirements for the 270 hours of didactic component of the certification process; private and public agency employment requirements; teaching to a diverse student base, etc.
        • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
        • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
        • Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment
        • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration Ability To:
          • Work independently in the absence of supervision
          • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
          • Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
          • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
          • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
          • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
          • Making observations
          • Reading and writing
          • Communicating with others
          • Operating assigned equipment
          • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
          • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
          • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
          • Operating assigned equipment
          • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
          • Bending, stooping, climbing or lifting up to 50 pounds
          • Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
          • Making sound decisions
          • Responding to questions
          • Demonstrating intellectual capabilities EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
            Minimum Education/Training:
            • Master's degree with a major in Human Services Psychology, Social Work or other closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
              • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
                Minimum Experience:
                • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of health and human services, and behavioral health/substance abuse specifically.
                  Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
                  • Minimum of two years teaching in higher education.
