Assist with the care of patients in the surgical suite by
performing routine scrub assignments and assigned duties according
to their scope of education and experience and under the
supervision of an RN. The surgical technologist handles the
instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical
procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being
performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the
necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care
during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for
maintenance of the sterile field. Reports to: Director of Surgical
Services The following functions are not intended to be an
exhaustive list of all duties performed by the position recipient:
Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure. Scrubs,
gowns, and gloves. Set up sterile table with instruments, supplies,
equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure. Perform
appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and
before incision is closed. Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
Ability to independently drape sterile field. Pass instruments,
etc., to surgeon during procedure. Maintain highest standard of
sterile technique during procedure. Prepare sterile dressings.
Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization. Assist
other members of team with terminal cleaning of room. Assist in
prepping room for the next patient. Adhere to Dosher Memorial
Hospital’s proper dress code which includes the wearing of name
badges. Maintain a professional rapport with patients, visitors,
doctors, staff, and other departments. Demonstrate maturity and
accountability for job performance. Support the philosophy,
objectives, and goals of the Department(s) and assess areas of
personal and professional growth. Adhere to Dosher Memorial
Hospital’s Standards of Behavior. Adhere to hospital and department
policies and procedures. Support and participate in quality
initiatives as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Support
and Promote Excellence in Customer/Guest Relations Assist all
patients, family members/significant others, physicians, visitors,
and employees in a friendly manner. Introduce self and use caring,
thoughtful words either in person or on the telephone. Demonstrate
ethical and appropriate behavior for a clinical environment to
include, but not limited to: dignity, patient’s rights and privacy,
and the maintenance of patient information. Demonstrate caring. If
unable to assist an individual in needs, offer to find someone who
can. Demonstrate proper telephone etiquette. Always make eye
contact when speaking with patients, family members/significant
others, visitors, employees, etc. Knock before entering a room or
office. Respond to all inquiries promptly and courteously. Work
together in the spirit of teamwork. Share information so that the
people who need to be aware of the facts are informed. Support and
Promote the Organization’s Safety Program Demonstrate adherence to
safety policies as evidenced by in-service attendance and employee
practices. Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and
co-workers: Follow all general safety rules. Identify the person
designated as Safety Officer. Notify the Safety Officer of real or
potential safety hazards. Demonstrate an understanding of fire
drills, internal/external disaster plans and procedures, and
evacuation procedures as evidenced by in-service records and
participation in drills. Demonstrate knowledge of Safety Committee
activities. Requirements: Qualifications Education: Graduate of
accredited Surgical Technician Program Current Certification BLS
Required 3 years CST experience and expertise in orthopedic
surgeries preferred Necessary Skills: Ability to comprehend and
follow instructions Maintain strictest confidentiality and adhere
to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations Familiarity with Regulatory
Standards Ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination
simultaneously Ability to perform in emergency situations Must
complete the required education for the Hip & Knee Replacement
(HKRPC) as required per policy Physical Demands: Standing and
walking most of the day Lift/carry up to 25 lbs Push/pull up to 100
lbs Stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching Reaching at all
levels Repetitive twisting and pressure involving hand and finger
mobility Confined spaces Gases present Chemicals present Working
around machinery with moving parts Possible exposure to bloodborne
pathogens Protective Equipment Required: Eye protection Surgical
