Description Your Role & Impact As a Water/Wastewater Facilities
Maintenance Mechanic, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and
enhancing the reliability of our water and wastewater treatment
facilities. Your work ensures that critical infrastructure operates
safely and efficiently, directly impacting the health and
well-being of our community. You’ll be responsible for technical
maintenance, repair, installation, and replacement of mechanical
equipment, helping PWC deliver on its mission of safe, productive
utility service. What You’ll Do Install, maintain, repair, and
replace pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, and other apparatus in
water/wastewater treatment plants and lift stations Perform regular
preventive maintenance inspections, including lubrication and
replacement of equipment and parts Troubleshoot, diagnose, and
repair mechanical malfunctions Assist with electrical work and
minor welding to fabricate, install, or repair parts such as gates,
stands, gear boxes, and flocculators Perform plumbing work to
install and repair pipes, valves, and piping system components
Inspect elevated water storage tanks and pumping stations Service
chlorinators and maintain chemical feeds at various dispersed
points Maintain accurate records of preventive maintenance and
repairs Operate vehicles and equipment to perform work assignments
Adhere to safety rules and procedures, working in environments with
exposure to waterborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, fumes, gases,
loud noises, electrical current, and confined spaces Be available
for extended hours, weekends, and on-call/call-back assignments as
required What We’re Looking For Good knowledge of safety rules,
regulations, and procedures Solid understanding of mechanical
maintenance and repair work Proficiency with tools, parts, and
methods for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment
Working knowledge of electrical maintenance, repair, installation,
and water/wastewater treatment Skill in using and maintaining trade
tools; ability to read and follow schematics, drawings, blueprints,
and instructions Competence in mathematical calculations and
computer use in water/wastewater treatment Effective oral and
written communication skills; ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to work in confined spaces and develop effective working
relationships with all levels of employees Education & Experience:
Graduation from an accredited two-year community/technical college
with a degree/certification in a related field, plus at least two
years of experience in mechanical maintenance/repair of
pumps/motors; OR Graduation from high school or equivalent, plus at
least four years of relevant experience; OR An equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience Special
Requirements: Functional Employment Test (FET) required Valid North
Carolina Driver’s License For Lift Stations: Must obtain and
maintain a valid North Carolina Class B (CDL) Driver’s License
